Excellent on the ground reporting. I have the same observations. In lower tier cities overcapacity of drivers could be even higher. Booking a ride succeeds in an instant, at all times, and at very very affordable pricing.
I’m not sure if this is true elsewhere in China but I was told that in Beijing you need to have had your driver’s license for at least five years. Don’t know if this is a way to regulate of drivers.
